Pre-tested the teacher training module for the national reading intervention and delivered training to master trainers

Pre-tested the teacher training module for the national reading intervention and delivered training to
master trainers who will in turn train primary grade teachers in 108 schools. The master teacher
training included two officials from MECSS, 30 provincial education officers, five staff members from
the Institute of Teacher Professional Development (ITPD), and five staff members from the Mongolian
Institute for Education Research (MIER) in charge of textbook development. This teacher training aims
to improve teachers’ skills in teaching reading, identifying and diagnosing lags in acquisition of reading
skills through use of formative assessments, developing customized strategies to reduce the gaps
identified, and using formative assessment data to monitor progress towards student-specific goals
for acquisition of reading skills
