In October 2024, a three-day professional development training for Russian language and mathematics teachers took place in Bishkek, Kyrgyz Republic. The training was organized with the support of the Department of Education Quality Development at the Ministry of Education and Science of the Kyrgyz Republic, under the framework of the Center for International Cooperation in Education Development’s program.
Over 40 teachers from various regions of Kyrgyzstan participated in the training, which was led by leading Russian experts and authors of educational materials. The program, based on the SAM (Student Achievement Monitoring) methodology, aimed to address educational deficits and improve teaching practices. The training provided teachers with in-depth knowledge of modern approaches to lesson planning, the use of interactive teaching methods, and the integration of formative assessment into everyday teaching.
Before the training, a diagnostic testing session using the SAM tool was conducted in schools across Kyrgyzstan. Education specialists from the Department of Education Quality Development were trained by the developers of the tool, equipping them with the skills to serve as experts in reviewing the teachers’ assessments during the testing process. This collaboration played a significant role in ensuring the high level of competence among national specialists and the objectivity of the diagnostic results.
During the training, teachers participated in workshops, masterclasses, and practical exercises. The focus was on applying the SAM methodology and using educational tools for enhancing student achievement. At the end of the course, all participants received certificates.
The event in Bishkek was a major step in implementing modern educational technologies and reinforcing the collaboration between Russian and Kyrgyz educational institutions. The successful cooperation further highlighted the importance of involving national structures in advancing Russian educational expertise and methodologies.
